I don't give Christopher Columbus credit for being in the Americas first. I give Christopher Columbus credit for being first to inform the Spanish King that a new world exists.

Does anyone have suggestions for books or documentaries about human migration? I've been really interested in the subject but have been having a hard time finding good sources

The case of polynesians seems more than just one visit though, another recent study concluded that the sequenced andean genome from the population of Rapa Nui that had long been credited with colonial era slave raids has been identified in remains dating from 1400 CE

There are prehistoric sites dating back longer though, suggesting human activity as far back as 23K years at the very least. And that’s just a firmly dated dig. Humans were here prior to that for sure. So it disproves the theory that the americas were not populated at all until humans crossed the Bering strait.

Would you be at all surprised if it turned down that any of the protohuman sub species got here? Take your pick, h habilis, erectus, denisovan. In fact, there are several tribes in South America that have denisovan DNA.

the only absolute proof we have of the Viking site is that the trees were cut with iron tools. that could have been a wide variety of different groups. we have no viking DNA, terds, bodies blah blah. yes the natives we recorded when the English explored the area were primitive stone tool savages. so can't say with absolution it was vikings, we only know when the trees we found in the bog were for sure cut, and it had to be iron tools but we live in an age where impossibilities do happen
