I'm not 100% sure on this. But I've heard that pigeons don’t just fly to somewhere new to deliver the message. They know how to find their way back home from a new place. So if you had a pigeon, I could take it with me, attach a message to it, and then send it on its way back to you. But if that pigeon had never been at my place they wouldn't just be able to find it.
