And it’s not really wrong for parents to do that.

Everyone I know who bought a house before the age of 30 was gifted money from their parents and or their parents co-signed .

My parents were poor and it shocked me getting older how none of my peers were paying their own way. Cars, rent, tuition, down payments, vacations. It can be disheartening

Yes my dad was like you need to get a house, making me feel bad, told me all my friends have houses, why don’t I? I told him, ya know all my friends do have houses. You know how? Their dads bought them their houses!!! You want me to have a house, ok I’ll do what my friends did. Dad!? Where’s my house, he shut up real quick. lol

Definitely saw this constantly living in Orange County. It’s like how does someone who is single making $120k/yr own a $1.8M house? 😂 the worst though is when they try and act like they accomplished it themselves.

Now that I’m in my 50s, I’m seeing that the “I’m a free spirit and live authentically” people were just waiting around for their inheritances (that they now have).

husband and I are 47. we live frugally so we can pay for our kid's college and give him a fat inheritance. I have no guilt or shame over it, he's a great kid and deserves it.

My sister is losing everything because her 32 year old son has guilted her into paying for everything for him. None of us had any idea until she started working at McDonald’s to pay for his latest “business venture”. It’s sad and he just doesn’t care

Every single person I know who owns a house got their down payment from their parents. And one of my friends who is going through a divorce, I found out that her parents were paying her 12k a month mortgage for her after her husband left. Wild stuff out there

Some of my friends don't even realize it. If you asked if they were getting help they'd say no but the down payment on their house is a wedding gift, their parents give them their "old" cars every 5 years, and the parents pay for international vacations every year.

I’m shocked by how many people’s parents are NOT paying for their stuff. Ngl it’s pretty annoying when a partners’ parents don’t contribute.

The problem is not that their parents are paying. The problem is it’s creating unrealistic expectations and unhealthy mindsets for people not getting help from their parents. It’s easy to say don’t compare yourself to others, but we all know that’s hard in practice.
