Public student loan forgiveness folks! Read what I found out yesterday below! PSLF borrowers: PLEASE look closely at your forbearance history. One thing I don't think enough borrowers realize is that SAVE-related forbearance can be administrative forbearance, and the type/status of forbearance matters when determining whether months may qualify for PSLF or potentially be eligible for Buyback. Here's what makes this especially confusing: on your Student Aid Payment History, your status may simply say “Forbearance.” But click the little “Help” (?) next to the word “Forbearance.” The explanation specifically includes administrative forbearance as a type of forbearance that can qualify for PSLF. So if your history simply says Forbearance, don't stop there. Look at the Help information and then dig into what type of forbearance you actually had. I initially thought, forbearance = those months don't count. But the more I dig into my own record, the more I'm realizing that the details behind that one word matter. And this is especially important for people who were placed into forbearance while on SAVE. Don't assume your forbearance months are automatically lost. Check the details. PSLF is complicated enough without borrowers missing potentially qualifying months because the payment history doesn't spell everything out on the main screen. Check your history. Click the Help button. Ask questions. Know what your months actually represent. I called student aid who confirmed that it was coded under administrative and nelnet confirmed that save is a type of administrative. I'm finishing the process of certifying with one of my prior jobs to see what my count goes up to then fighting for Buyback. #PSLF #SAVE #StudentLoans #PSLFBuyback #PublicServiceLoanForgiveness
