By the time you’re done, you’re wondering whether you should do it at all. They may care about you deeply. You may value their perspective. There’s room for that, and for what you know about your own life. You can listen, consider what they’ve said, and still choose something they wouldn’t choose for you. Pay attention to what happens after that conversation. Are you reconsidering because something useful came up?
