Critical thinking asks: “How well am I thinking about what’s in front of me?” Strategic thinking asks: “Am I thinking about the right things, at the right level, over the right timeframe?” One helps you question assumptions, assess evidence and make sound judgements. The other helps you step back, see the bigger picture and decide where to focus. Leaders need both.

In short strategic is what you plan to do and if in theta planning anything goes wrong you switch to critical thinking. For example you decide to take the shortest route from A to B per strategic planning , and you have a breakdown or a roadblock , strategic goes out the window and in come critical thinking .
