We lost Dad when I was just 10. And now, through Mum’s journey with dementia, we’re experiencing another kind of loss. One that happens slowly, while the person we love is still here. And perhaps that’s why yesterday means so much more to me now. Because the memories Mum is slowly losing are the very ones I’m fighting to hold onto. Yesterday is where Dad still lives. Where Mum was the woman who carried us through everything. Where our family story began. And while dementia may slowly take away her memories, it can never erase the life she lived or the love she gave us. Sometimes honouring yesterday isn’t about wanting to go back. It’s about remembering what brought us here.
