@recycldstardust: Hear me out, indigenous peoples day shouldn’t be on “Columbus” day. Year after year, I hear about so much animosity and anger towards indigenous people who are trying to take over a day that many Italian Americans believe belongs to them. As a Native American indigenous person myself I do believe that we do need to have an indigenous peoples day that celebrate the resiliency of native people despite Columbus’s efforts, but trying to erase a day that was given to Italian immigrants because of the violence, discrimination, and prejudice that they had to endure really doesn’t help anybody. I also don’t think our struggles were in any way equal, but nonetheless as human beings we should be in this together. We should uplift each other. That includes not celebrating a historical figure that kicked off the genocide of many native nations. We can celebrate Italian American culture in more positive ways with better more honorable figures. I do think there needs to be an indigenous peoples day on its own separate day that doesn’t take away from that Italian American heritage so that we can both have the proper time and the proper space to be respected so we can more easily support each other rather than sharing a day where we oppose each other. #i#IndigenousTikToki#indigenouspeoplesdayn#nativetiktok
