Introduction: The Harmful Consequences of Riba (Usury
Riba (usury or interest) is one of the practices prohibited in Islam because of its harmful consequences for individuals, societies, and economies. Its effects may include excessive indebtedness, financial hardship, bankruptcy, unemployment, and the concentration of wealth in the hands of a small minority. The Quran strongly warns against engaging in Riba and calls upon believers to abandon it, emphasizing justice and the protection of people's rights.
Allah, the Exalted, says in the Holy Quran:
“O you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.” (Quran 2:278)
Islam is the religion of pure monotheism (Tawhid), calling humanity to worship the One and Only God, Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has no partner, no son, and no equal. He alone deserves our worship, prayers, devotion, and trust.
