Working at one of these where a lot of our clients are cash pay has destroyed all the parts of me that thinks I can’t charge what I want to. Because many clients stay for me. Okay, pay me that and l work with you 1:1 for 40 hours a months and set you up for the rest of your waking hours. I got you.

i'm so grateful to get mine for free in the uk. i do a full outpatient dbt program - 3 hrs group, 1 hr 1-1, and telephone coaching. the group is about 13mo, and the 1-1 will end up at about 15mo. all for free. the same program is around £15k. and that doesn't include my psych apts, the diagnosis process, my meds, crisis support. overall, it'd be about £20k

this is wild. non-marginalised people can take near 4 years for recovery if the support is effective.

i went to newport institute which they claim they treat it, but when you actually have episodes and show symptoms of your literal diagnosis they no longer want to help

The University of Iowa (my alma mater) Hospitals & Clinics is where Dr Marsha Linehan developed DBT as a concept, and they offer the "STEPPS" program which is a 22 week IOP available to everyone with commercial or state insurance. Partial hospitalization programs exist as well. I was diagnosed at UIHC when I was 19.

These programs claim that the amount of skill and schooling and they claim insurance rates do not adequately reimburse them for their skills and schooling, so they don’t take insurance. So only those who have money can afford it.

The $100 is probably the amount they get for hospital homebound from the school district.

I went to an outpatient program twice a week for 18 mos. It was amazing. So helpful. My insurance covered it in full. Portland DBT in Oregon.

unfortunately the system only seems to care once someone is in crisis. the system itself needs to be completely rebuilt

There is a DBT partial in Woburn MA that is a minimum of a month and then they have an IOP.. it is very intense. 6 hours of DBT a day.. It’s run by bournwood and does take insurance including state insurance

You’re angry at the few programs that provide high quality treatment for BPD. I wonder what their overhead is? How much it costs to keep such a unit functioning and able to provide the excellent intensive DBT treatment that exists almost nowhere else in the US?
