As a former ride operator who is now an Electrical Engineer you have a higher chance of dying in a car accident than you are riding a modern roller coaster. Goliath was made by B&M who to date has never had a fatality or severe injury due to design or mechanical failure, and it has operated safely for 20 years. B&M coasters were my favorites to operate and were exceptionally reliable in my time as an operator. My money is on a safety lapse due to procedure failure; And I can tell you as someone who has done the job that every member of that coasters crew is examining every single thing they have done today as they will be during the course of the investigation. My bet is this guy was outside the safety limits of the ride.

Saw the souvenir photos that captured the moment it happened. It’s so sad bc you can see the exact seat he was ejected from and his loved one who was next to him looking back at his body, screaming in horror. It’s so sad. This was my meditation ride that I’d casually ride after work to relieve stress. Even planned to go today after work. Have probably rode this ride more than I’ve ridden any other ride and trusted it with my life….don’t think I’ll ever get on again.

I ALMOST DIED ON THAT SAME EXACT RIDE!!! I was half the size of the person next to me so the bar didn't come down far enough and I almost slipped under the bar!!!!

I used to work as a ride operator on Goliath years ago. From my experience, the ride’s computer system is designed to prevent the train from being dispatched if there’s an issue with the restraints or safety mechanisms. I’m genuinely curious how something like this could have happened. It’s heartbreaking to hear about such a tragic accident. My condolences go out to his family. May he rest in peace.

The hulk at Universal has what I call a backup plan. It’s a seat belt that clips into the coaster’s safety bar. Why every coaster doesn’t have this makes zero sense to me.
