@cscolvin: Taking care of murderers is not something they prepare you for in medical school. #hasan #forthoodshooting #armyveteran #masscasualty #erdoc
Were you at Darnell or Temple (I think Temple, it's been a while)? My parents were at Darnell. Dad in OR, Mom in PACU.

That is what makes you a great person. You go above and you do what it takes to do the “job”. I say job because it’s a calling. I am sorry that you still have issues from that. I pray for nothing but peace because you deserve that. Losing people is something you should never be at peace with but you should have peace. It’s not about you but you still deserve that peace!!!

36 year RN. We are tasked with providing the best care possible regardless of who the patient is. We do not pass judgment. We provide morally, ethically and legally appropriate care. The rest is up to other disciplines. Prayers my friend!💕🙏

I personally think the guilt comes mainly from not having been able to save the victims yet saving the offender. You did what you had to do and it was absolutely the right thing to do.

We work in an industry (ER) where we treat anyone and everyone and without letting our emotions or personal feelings effect that.

You treat the patient before you. The Hippocratic oath. You did your job. But you did your job with the info you had. I am so sorry.

As an RN of over 30 years shock trauma, cardiac Cath lab, ER and IR it is my opinion you simply did what you took an oath to do. We are not trained or take oath to do harm to the guilty or bad!!!! It is first do no harm straight up!!!!! If we start passing judgement and selecting to help only those we believe deserve it then we will harm those who truly deserve or help!!!! Prayers for you to receive closure!!!!!

I think its where faith comes into medicine. I believe we are not to judge good or bad that is god’s job. I am mortal just like the person who is trying to be saved regardless their circumstance ultimately god will judge them.

Have had similar situation once. But by saving him, you gave the families a chance to see him answer for his crimes. Justice isn’t our job, saving humans is, and you did your job well.

I struggled/struggling with this from my time in Afganistan. Pouring our limited resources into someone who JUST tried harm us. You did the right thing, at the right time. Do No Harm/Do Know Harm! ❤️

It takes a lot of courage to share such deep and personal feelings and I hope so badly that you find peace. You did your job and upheld your oath- anything beyond that is out of your hands. I deal with something similar, an inner battle with my morality and questioning if what I’m doing is actually right in the grand scheme of things. I have to remember my oath above all.

I personally think that it worked out the way it was supposed to. You saved him and then he spent years paralyzed in a prison and now he will face death so I like to think that he himself suffered instead of just getting to die that day.. thank you for your service and thank you for your integrity! You, sir, did your job and honored your oath’s

I can tell how traumatic this is to you because of how your eyes dart back and forth while you talk about it. I hope you’ve considered therapy and/or EDMR because you’ve encountered so much trauma in your life. I can tell you have a beautiful heart and i hope life never has the ability to change that
