How can states laws override federal laws? I don’t get it 😳😳😳 immigration is federal law, how can a state or city override that??? How can they just decide not to cooperate with federal agencies? Wth is going on?

We have the same issue in my dept in Illinois. We’ve had people stabbed, shot or SA’d by folks we arrest but our state has legislation that basically says we can’t deal with ICE. So these criminals already spend almost 0 time in jail because of our terrible sentencing laws and now even if they’re wanted by ICE (for a reason we don’t bother to research), they go free. And almost always hurt someone else. But our governor JB Pritzker says he’s doing a great job. 🙄
