A chewing gum fortune built this hilltop mansion in Phoenix, and nearly a century later, it just came full circle. In 1931, William Wrigley Jr., the gum tycoon who owned the Arizona Biltmore, built Wrigley Mansion on a 100 foot hill above the resort as a 50th anniversary gift for his wife, Ada. He died the very next year. By 1992, the mansion was headed for demolition. That changed when Geordie Hormel, an heir to the Hormel Foods family, bought the property for roughly 2.6 million dollars and helped preserve one of Phoenix’s most recognizable landmarks. Now the connection to the Arizona Biltmore is official again. On October first, the group that owns the Biltmore purchased Wrigley Mansion for approximately 17 million dollars, according to county records. That means, for the first time in decades, these two historic Phoenix landmarks share one owner. Pyramid Global Hospitality will operate both properties, which places Wrigley Mansion’s restaurants, including Michelin recommended Christopher’s, under the Arizona Biltmore umbrella. The mansion was already one of the Valley’s most iconic dining and event destinations. Now it is connected directly to one of Arizona’s most famous resorts, creating a much stronger luxury hospitality story around the entire Camelback corridor. So what would you choose? A night at the Arizona Biltmore, or dinner at Wrigley Mansion with a 360 degree Phoenix view? Drop your answer below.
