@crimebuffet: Godinez death sentence upheld on appeal The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed Victor Alejandro Godinez’s capital-murder conviction and death sentence on October 8, 2026. He was convicted in 2024 of fatally shooting Texas DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez in April 2019; Sanchez died four months later. The court rejected the appeal’s four issues, including the argument that medical treatment rather than the shooting caused Sanchez’s death. This direct-appeal ruling does not mean every possible further challenge has ended. Photo: Victor Godinez entering a Hidalgo County courtroom on January 30, 2024.
