@thecommonwealthcoalition: Josh Shapiro’s Department of Health tried to quietly erase “pregnant woman” and “mother” from Pennsylvania’s health code and replace them with “pregnant individual” and “postpartum individual.” In a 500+ page proposed overhaul, terms that have always described biological reality were swapped for gender-neutral language. A woman who gives birth to a stillborn baby would no longer be called a mother — just a “postpartum individual.” Meanwhile, Shapiro keeps campaigning on protecting “women’s” reproductive rights and maternal health. You can’t erase women from the language and still claim you’re fighting for them. Biology isn’t bigotry. A pregnant woman is a woman. A mother is a mother.
