@narcissisticpartners: Hi, it's Juliana! Imagine you and I are standing on top of a building. If we're close to the edge and I poke you in the back, you're going to freak out. But if we're far away from the edge and I do the exact same thing, you probably won't. Why? Because you're right on the edge! One little push is all it takes to send you falling. So think of the poke in the back as something frustrating. And the distance to the edge as how much frustration a person can take before they lose it. Healthy partners are usually going to be standing pretty far away from that edge. You can: Miss a turn. (poke) Forget to pick something up. (poke) Accidentally spill something. (poke) Without them losing it. But narcissistic partners are often standing much closer to that edge. Why? There's a bunch of different reasons, like: They expect other people to do things the way they want. They have a hard time managing their emotions. They treat mistakes you make like personal attacks. But the point is, they freak out over little things because they're standing so close to the edge. Said differently: They freak out over little things because they can't tolerate as much frustration as a healthy partner can.
