I always tell them before i give quote, that if we don’t proceed on job, It’ll be a service call charge ($135); if job is proceeded, the service charge comes off. Time is money and customers know that, if they don’t, walk the other way and let someone else work for free

The worst is spending days on a giant kitchen/bath remodel or garage addition or even a new build and the customer comes back “thank you for this quote we now have an idea what it costs to do this and it is too high thanks for your time.”

I had this guy recently who is the COO of the healthcare system in my area and just bought an $800k house 2 doors away from the house I grew up in as a teenager and it was a 20k full landscape refresh. Tree trimming, removing old stone and adding new, adding some edging around the pool and I was so pumped because it would have been my biggest job to date and spent probably 2 hrs on taking pictures and drawing up the estimate back at home and the guy was like “not right now”. Like dude I know for a fact you make like 600k a year because it’s public information, share the wealth!!!!
