This video encompasses all of my thoughts on TSR. The Social Network is my favourite movie, and I was really excited to hear there was a sequel coming, but it was so disappointing. It lacks what made TSN such a good movie, the timelessness and critique of Zuckerberg done in a beautiful, seamless way (the opening scene with Erica Albright, the whole debacle with Eduardo/the aftermath of the comp. smashing scene, Sean Parker, the interaction with the associate towards the end). The Social Reckoning is just so bad because Zuckerberg feels more like a stereotypical villain than anything else, they don’t dive into the ‘why’s’ and nuances of the situation at all. Like you said, they are just very flat characters. It just feels like a stereotypical ‘superhero takes down evil supervillain’ storyline replaced the names of real people than anything else. Like, Rooney Mara’s character in TSN gave more real criticism towards Zuckerberg’s nature in the opening two minutes than TSR did in its entirety. Also, the editing… so bad. Makes you appreciate and miss Fincher a lot more.

ok maybe that’s why I liked it bc I’ve never seen the social network and didn’t know it was a sequel to that… should I watch the social network and then rewatch the social reckoning?
