@mothershipsg: As a small country, others may try to squeeze Singapore but they'll find that our country is like a durian, said Prime Minister Lawrence Wong on Oct. 12. Speaking at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference, PM Wong talked about Singapore's response in a world where power determines outcome. Singapore has to maintain good relations with all the major powers. "When it comes to powerful friends, having more is always better than fewer," he said. But at the same time, we must be able to hold our own, he said. "We have consistently invested heavily in defence and deterrence, so that we can protect ourselves and we can prevent others from pushing us around easily." PM Wong also said that Singapore needs to build its own credibility and economic relevance and offer something of value to others. "Then they will have good reasons to come to talk to us, to listen to our views, and take our interests seriously."
