@thewildginger: If a mushroom could be gay, this would be it. In respect to yesterday's national coming -out day, I'd like to introduce the Rainbow Chanterelle. They show up with a extraordinary amount of colors, white/cream, lilac, rose, pink, yellow, orange, and in the case of exceptionally rare, almost fluorescent blue tone, and in highly cold, wet mountains even purple or deep-violet. This mother f***** is a living banner to those the world dare to declare unacceptable or different. They are the quiet equivalent of a copacetic smile which screams in your face. On the Coastal range we typically see all but the last couple colors. The orange cap washed all over in pink and salmon like it just walked straight out of a pride parade. The edges quite literally glow...soft, rosy margins, while the middle stays a bold orange. Those beautiful caps are screaming, firing a multitude of different neurons in the brain, eliciting all sorts of different feel-good biochemicals. These things push themselves up in our spruce forests, especially along the thick fogbelt that is our coastline here in the Pacific Northwest, where our fog is so thick it could drown out the screams of the lucky forager who might stumble across them. And that's where they come out from...as this mushroom is done hiding in the fog, hidden away inside the ultra thick canopy. #queermushrooms #rainbowforaging #LoveIsLove #queerforaging #lgbtqoutdoors
