Is it true that BPD is considered the most painful mental health condition?

This is a random question but did the intensity of your emotions get better since you re in remission? I mean for me I did try dbt therapy for almost a year and even though I could manage some behaviours I would still feel everything at 100%😭

people are misunderstanding the metaphor was never intended to describe PAIN. it was intended to describe extreme emotional sensitivity. emotional sensitivity does not equal pain, it's the full spectrum of emotions. pwBPD aren't just sensitive to negative emotions, also positive ones, which can equally be harmful

i think we don’t have to compare physical pain to mental pain in order to validate the suffering caused by mental illnesses like BPD, because they are nothing alike. both are terrible things to go through but trying to act as though they can be equivocated just makes no sense to me. two things can be true at once: both are agonising, but in completely different ways that just cannot be objectively compared, and i think it does a disservice to the physically disabled/injured people whose pain is used as a comparison. suffering is not objective — we don’t have to compare things in order to say different illnesses cause immense pain in different ways.

Its genuinely so dangerous when people take this stuff out of context because i know personally comments like these were what fuelled my need to be worse it made me have a mindset of i need to be “more ill”

You should totally talk about how ADHD can present as BPD! I have ADHD and it presents as BPD, it actually got me misdiagnosed with BPD at 12! My ADHD looks exactly like BPD, I’ve been trying to study it more to understand it 🥹

To me, BPD feels like a poison. Like I am made of poison. Maybe not a lot, but it's there. And if I try to have someone in my life, whether it is romantic, platonic, or even familial, those people are getting a piece of me. And they may go their entire lives never even getting close to that poisonous part But there still is always a chance that it will one day poison them and cause irreparable damage, and part of me thinks that's not worth it even if that means allowing myself to be miserable for the rest of my life.

off topic but I'm struggling a lot and i wanted to ask what remission felt like? I get what not meeting the diagnostic criteria means but do you still feel the same inside, or does it actually get better? I'm sorry if it doesn't make sense, idk how to explain it better.

i mean me personally my intense emotions cause me physical pain. i’ve always described them as excruciating pain. I feel them throughout my entire body. the metaphor makes sense to me

I understand the metaphor, it is mostly akin to mental anguish, someone with BPD is ‘burned by the slightest touch’ meaning if something triggers you in ways including your self worth, relationships, insecureties, you flip out. I used to be a quiet kid until it developed and was noticing changes in my behavior and relationships. I do truly believe in black and white because that's exactly how it feels for me. I am medicated SLIGHTLY now. Not all of it goes away.
