I've been thinking about this and I understand hindsight is 20/20but the more i think about it the more ridiculous it is Columbus didn't recognize something was wrong. The East Indies weren't unexplored, they didn't find it odd that there were no signs of Europeans or settlements or familiar ports or word of familiar ports. They couldnt read longitude and latitude to see they were 10s of thousands of miles off course? Neither Columbus nor any of his crew had ever been to the East Indies to recognize thats not where they were? They didn't bring a translator to speak the local dialect and weren't suspicious when the language the locals were speaking was wholy unknown?

He was out to conquer. He had a full armada ..He was headed for Turtle Island..He lost a ship along the way.Fearing the loss of more ships, he veered off to the Indies because an Island would be easier to conquer. He was surprised that the people were friendly and way easier to abuse than he expected. Francesca Vespucci was renamed 'Amerigo' by the Catholic Church after 'Amaruka', the name of the continent South of Panama. Columbus as well as all of Europe ,knew about Turtle Island for hundreds of years.. People were trading with nations a long time before he sailed out..He wasn't looking for Asia.He wasn't dumb, just malicious. He knew Turtle Island was rich in resources and wanted to be the one to forcibly take it for fame and fortune.

To build on this. His first trip was 1492, he made 3 more voyages “discovering “ South and Central America. His last one wass 1504 and he still did not know that it was a separate continent
