The room were parents say goodbye to their kids that has passed away at the childrens hospital in Gothenburg is called "Nangijala". If you have not read the Lionheart brothers, it comes from that. It is the land you come to after you die. Astrid wrote about things that are scary, but made it from a kids point of view and tried to make it not so scary.

Ahead of her time. I raised both my kids with consequences and never violence. I wanted them to know what non-violence and love was like at home so that it would be foreign to them if they experienced it. And they could always return home to find it again if needed. The world out there was already harsh enough - my husband and I wanted to be their soft place to fall.

My favorite quote from her goes something like this: "Give children love, more love, and even more love, and common sense will come naturally." It is a bit difficult to translate, because the word folkvett that i translated to "common sence" encompasses much more than just that, it includes the skills and virtually everything you need to know to be a good human being.

I love it when an old man in The brothers Lionheart movie says to Jonathan (who doesnt want to kill people) "If everybody would think like you Jonathan then evil will rule for all eternity. My mother's grandmother was interviewed by the local paper when she turned 90 in 1990. She told the reporter that the one thing she was most proud of was that she and her husband had never raised their hands to their 12 children.
