Greek fava (split pea purée) is one of the most beloved and traditional meze dishes in Greece. Simple, healthy, and incredibly delicious, it’s made with just a few ingredients, yet offers layers of flavor that perfectly capture the essence of Mediterranean cooking. Fava is typically served as a dip, spread on bread, or as a side dish to accompany grilled meats or seafood. This easy-to-make dish is a staple on many Greek tables, offering both comfort and nutrition in every bite. Greek Fava (Split Pea Purée) A simple yet flavorful meze perfect for any table! Ingredients • 1 pound (500g) split peas • 2.5 liters (84 oz) water, or enough to boil the peas • 5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil • Salt and pepper, to taste For serving: • 1 small onion, finely chopped • Extra virgin olive oil (for drizzling)@YAYASEVOO • Dried oregano • Pepper, to taste • Capers • Toasted bread Instructions 1. Cook the Split Peas: Rinse the split peas thoroughly under cold water. In a large pot, combine the split peas with 2.5 liters of water. Bring to a boil over medium heat, skimming off any foam that rises to the surface. Reduce heat and simmer until the peas are tender, about 30–40 minutes. Add more water if needed. 2. Blend: Once the peas are cooked, blend them using an immersion blender or food processor until smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and 5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Simmer the purée on low heat, stirring, until it thickens slightly. Keep in mind that the fava will thicken further as it cools. Remove from heat. 3. Serve: Scoop the fava into a serving bowl. Top with finely chopped onion, a drizzle of olive oil, capers, and a sprinkle of dried oregano. Add pepper to taste. 4. Pair: Serve with toasted bread for dipping. Enjoy warm or at room temperature—it’s a versatile, healthy, and delicious dish that’s always a hit! #fava #greekfava #splitpeas #splipeapuree #greekcuisine🇬🇷 #cooking #alexandrashome #learnintiktok #fypシ
