@twomomsandtheirbabies: The peaceful backroad drives home after an overnight shift, where it’s still “light” out before the change of seasons. Then soon begin the days of dark drives into shift and dark drives home after shift. • • • • And after handling the chaos of the community, we continue on to the daily duties as spouses and parents! #911dispatcher #lifeofadispatcher #firstresponders #dispatcher #overnightdispatcher
Side note, I get sworn in to a PD tomorrow. One step forward to my dream 🥹

I’ve been dispatching for nearly two years now; 12-15hr shifts, sometimes up to 6 days a week (we rotate each week between 3-4 days). Dispatching changes your emotions and your mentality; you have to REALLY have healthy coping mechanisms and a good outlet - for me it’s the beach, drives, the forest, linedancing… it is hard trying to overcome certain calls, but please always give yourself grace and know that this is NOT an easy job for anyone to do - you’re doing something that requires a lot of emotional and mental strength; always do what you have to do to recover ❤️🩹

16 hour 911 law enforcement shifts here as well. My commute to work is only aprox 1 minute 30 seconds, zero decompression. My wife knows if I come home and go right into the shower that it was a bad shift and it decompressing in there. Having a partner that understands is 100% made me the most lucky man in the world. My wife is an absolute rockstar. I couldn’t do it without her

My shifts are 2 on 2 off 5 on 5 off. 12 hours shifts. With short staffing they’re even longer sometimes. Although we are a smaller center, bad nights are far between. The exciting ones are the same. Worked a pretty good pursuit last night. Everyone is ok. But I am so exhausted. One more night, 14 hour shift. My commute is an hour so about a 16 hour shift. The decompression is definitely something I value tho 100%.
