If you're paying hundreds of dollars for API keys, these three free tools and one GitHub repo get that bill to zero. NVIDIA, Baseten, and OpenRouter all hand out keys for the top open models, and one repo lists every free provider with copy-paste configs for Claude Code and Cursor. Here's how to set it up: 1. Go to build.nvidia.com, make a free account, and grab your NVIDIA NIM key. Over 100 models including DeepSeek and Llama, around 40 requests a minute. 2. Sign up at Baseten. New accounts get $30 in credits for the Model APIs, which carry the newest open models like Kimi K3 and GLM 5.3, usually the same day they drop. 3. Make an OpenRouter account and use any model ending in ":free". Qwen, Llama, and more, capped at 50 requests a day. 4. Open the repo, pick your provider, paste your key into the config generator, and drop the snippet into Claude Code or Cursor. 5. Run one small task to make sure it connects. You're live. What you get: ✅ 100+ NVIDIA-hosted models on one free key ✅ The newest open models on Baseten the day they launch ✅ Free OpenRouter keys for Qwen and Llama ✅ Copy-paste configs for Claude Code and Cursor ✅ The same models everyone else pays for, at $0 Why this matters: You don't need a paid key to build with AI anymore. These tiers have limits, so they won't run a production app, but for building, testing, and learning they cover more than you'll burn through in a month.
