@hitchlife: THIS IS WHAT A REAL DAY WORKING AS AN OFFSHORE TECHNICIAN LOOKS LIKE… FROM WAKING UP TO GETTING THE JOB DONE! 🔧🌊 Here is what it looks like when you work 12-hour shifts on an offshore oil and gas platform. And if you've ever wondered what technicians actually do all day, let me walk you through it. The day starts early. On this platform, shifts run from 6:30 in the morning until 6:30 in the evening. Night-shift workers follow the same schedule in reverse, and during the rotation, the crew may work seven days a week. First, it's time to get ready, grab breakfast, and have that essential cup of coffee! There are laundry facilities onboard, and on some installations, your clothes can be washed and dried the same day. After breakfast, the team gathers for the morning meeting to discuss the work planned for the day. Then it's off to the office, where the lead technician assigns jobs, depending on the workload and any unexpected breakdowns. But here's something beginners need to understand. You can't simply grab your tools and start working wherever you want! Most maintenance jobs require the appropriate permit to work, along with a discussion of the hazards, isolation requirements, and safety precautions. Once the permit is approved and the job is authorized, it's time to collect the tools and head out onto the platform. And the work can vary from day to day. Technicians may carry out preventative maintenance, inspect equipment, troubleshoot faults, or repair machinery when something breaks down. For example, one job might involve replacing diesel filters, while another could involve checking equipment to help prevent a future failure. That's what makes the role interesting: you're helping keep essential offshore equipment operating safely and reliably. Of course, the exact duties depend on your technical discipline, qualifications, and the installation you're working on. Would you like to see the actual maintenance jobs technicians carry out offshore? Comment “TECHNICIAN” below!
