@ottodigbydysart: Are plants conscious? you might think that plants don't have sentience or experience, but there is increasing evidence of intentionality in plants. But a plant in a dry straw with water at the end and then do a leap towards the water as it senses the water and desires to go towards it. Similarity with a pole that can sort of reach and it will speed up its growth towards the poll cling onto it calm down. So plants seem to sense their environment and then act accordingly. This is especially convincing when you look atthem in through a very sped up time lapse. When sped up they don't look very different at all from another animal moving around its environment. So if the only difference between a plant and an animal is time perception, why should we not consider them conscious. If they are conscious we have the fascinating project of trying to empathise with them. What is it like to be a plant? The word for this, and the philosophical concept of the day, is the beautiful German word Umwelt which is the specific, subjective perceptual world experienced by a living organism. So unfortunately you’re wrong, they react to things in the air released by other plants the sun and water ect it’s all mechanical, I’ve been through this debate with my friends who are admittedly smarter than me and no matter how I went to say plants could be conscious they debunked me

if we understand molecular structure as there being no real separation it seems logical for the plant to grow towards water. as leaves reach towards the sun. does this alone give rise to consciousness? it's been a theory for a long time. is consciousness necessary for this function of a plant growing towards moisture? if so, where is the consciousness that enables a broken bone to mend?

my dad told me plants scream but not on a range we can eat, I didn't pick a flower for years. also, some planta have been observed directing nutrients and water towards their poorly neighbours.
