@channelnewsasia: A widespread power outage hit parts of Indonesia's Batam and Bintan islands on Monday morning (Oct 12), lasting nearly 16 hours and disrupting businesses, communications and water supply. Some residents and visitors reportedly turned to premises equipped with backup generators, while affected water treatment facilities could maintain only 30 per cent of normal production. State electricity provider PLN Batam said power had been restored to nearly 99 per cent of affected customers as of 4am on Tuesday, but the cause of the blackout remains under investigation. #indonesianews
