@gabriellaexplains: 🌍 Did you know the Congo River helped split our closest living relatives into two different species? Explorer @ash_dykes has been documenting his insane journey with an inflatable Kayak through the river basin. The Congo River forms a major geographical barrier between bonobos and chimpanzees. Over time, populations of their common ancestor became separated, evolving into two distinct species on either side. Exactly how this separation unfolded is still being studied, but it’s a beautiful example of how important adaptation to the surrounds is, in evolutionary histories. #CongoRiver #AshDykes #Bonobos #Chimpanzees #congo
Why do you think we (and I use we even though I’m a shit swimmer) became good swimmers? Hair loss?

Canoeing the Congo by Harwood, hippos, crocs, military danger, corruption and some wonderful people. But, I spent the whole time thinking what was the point as it didn’t sound fun. No chimpanzees though.
