@history.nuggets.official: One of the oldest universities in Texas started with eight students on a former plantation, and it's older than the University of Texas. #prairieview #History

Richy :

I grew up in Prairie View Texas. If anyone wants to know the full story there is a slave cemetery located behind Prairie View University and there you will find a historical marker that explains how the Liendo plantation donated the land as the Alta Vista school of higher learning for color kids. It later became Prairie View A&M university and a nearby neighborhood was named Alta Vista. Even today Black people face hate, and racism in many parts of Waller County. I remember when I was 18 I took my daughter‘s mom to a restaurant in Hempstead, Texas. Behind the salt and pepper shaker on our table; there was a business card to join the KKK.

FYI Speaking of the great Prairie View University football team. They just lost another game last Saturday (Oct 10th). (💙💛 S.U Baby) Because PVU is an awesome HBCU The PVU marching band was fabulous.

And people have the nerve to say with pride that "we are not our ancestors." No, we are not. They created, endured and persisted without today's images of what black success looks like. I strive to be as strong as our ancestors.
