You might replay conversations, imagine the apology you deserved, or wish they could finally see things from your perspective. A part of you may believe that if they acknowledged the pain, you could finally move forward. But what happens when that acknowledgment never comes? You can spend years waiting for someone else to validate an experience you already lived through. Their understanding might bring comfort, but it isn’t a requirement for your healing. You don’t need them to agree with your version of events before you can trust your own experience. Closure can begin with accepting what happened, recognizing what it cost you, and deciding what you need now. You may never get the conversation you hoped for. But you can still rebuild your peace, strengthen your boundaries, and create a life that no longer revolves around their response.
