Brokerage account basics (investments pt 2) lesson 4

How to evaluate your own investment picks for your brokerage account. These are the three things I pay attention to.

📍Dividend yield - I'm not saying dividend ETFs are super bad in a brokerage account (before I get all the SCHD comments) and yes some of them can pay out qualified dividends (which are taxed at LTCG rates) I just personally would RATHER put these in a Pre-tax 401k or IRA account because they are useful in certain scenarios in a portfolio there just may be a more efficient place for them
📍Fund turnover - you can find this on the fund page or a fact sheet. The higher the turnover the more likely you may be getting a capital gain distribution at the end of the year. Etfs are more tax efficient from this standpoint typically and vanguard ETFs even more so (at least the index ones)
📍Think long term (unless your goals are short term that is) - people get stuck in these massive single positions later in life and it becomes more complicated to diversify or change things up without a big tax impact. So be mindful from the start.
