“John Brown's zeal in the cause of freedom was infinitely superior to mine. Mine was as the taper light; his was as the burning sun. I could live for the slave; John Brown could die for him.” Fredrick Douglass

At first I thought he was going to argue that white leftists praise John Brown while not being willing to BE John Brown, but his actual take was SO MUCH WORSE

Calling john brown a “footnote” is insane. Many historians consider that the first sparks of the civil war

it is still important to remember that John brown was not the only person who took direct action towards slavers. there were plenty of enslaved people who rose up against their own masters (Nat Turner) and participated in direct action against slavery. John brown still plays a very critical role in that story. but he was not the only one.

Harriet Tubman and Fredrick Douglas also famously liked and supported him, even if they knew they couldn't be a part of what he did. They're pretty famously allies of eachother

I love John Brown of course but I feel like he’s talked about over many black abolitionists or genuine rebel slaves like Frederick Douglas, David Ruggles, or Nat Turner

I just unfollowed him for that, all his videos are about him hating something and adding nothing but despair over anything he talks about

I remember him doing a few anti-macklemore videos during the Robert Craft thing which weirded me out. like he really had a huge hateboner for Macklemore. and like, yeah sure it's true some people spend more time praising the celebrity for doing something than the thing he was advocating for but Macklemore like openly said this wasn't about him it was about Palestine so I can't really knock him.
the comments of that first video were packed with pro Israel people and while he did go on to praise ms. Rachel for being a "good activist" unlike Macklemore it really gave me really fucked up vibes so I blocked him just to get him out of my feed
