@oursoundstash: JAY-Z believes Hip Hop became a global language because people around the world could recognise themselves in the struggle it came from. He describes rap as the voice of the underdog. Growing up on food stamps, eating cereal for dinner, having little today but believing tomorrow could be different. The details might change from Brooklyn to somewhere thousands of miles away, but the feeling of being overlooked, counted out and determined to build something better could be understood anywhere. For JAY-Z, that’s why Hip Hop travelled as far as it did. It wasn’t simply the sound or a glorification of the lifestyle. There was hope underneath it, and people who came from very different places could hear their own story in that message.
