as someone who grew up with (and eventually had to bury due to this) a crunchy mom i need any person who thinks for a second "oh she had valid arguements" to pause and identify that you are at the top of a pipeline and you need to actively remove yourself from any space where people are trying to tell you about water filters to defloridate your water, or to not go to a medical doctor's office. if you ever looked at project 2025, or maha and said "well theyre on the right track with this but not this" you are on the SAME pipeline that ends with you dying too young from a preventable condition. for my mom it was lung cancer that the internet convinced her was ~mold poisoning~. Flannagan was definitely basing this type of horror in real life roots (he did it before- I had a triggered mini freak out during haunting of hill house when it was revealed the home had a bunch of black mold in it, and seemingly to trigger migraines and halucinations in the mom) and using simple recruiting rhetoric the deeply crunchy people use to justify things like eating terpentine covered sugar cubes to ~kill the parasites~, and then turning around to also dose their children. we are shown in a later ep that when she does something when carrie is not around, she ruins the life of her boss, who was already cutting her a break and is also the mother of a young kid, on top of messing with her tea cup. all while making the POC coworkers she has the scape goats with their desire to have a safe work place. she may be rooted in a reality but explicitly she is wrong and making the world a worse place.
