TULARE, Calif. (KFSN) -- A 41-year-old Fresno man has been arrested on a homicide charge after a woman died following a reported domestic violence incident in Tulare. Tulare police identified the suspect as Marcelo Rodriguez. Police said officers received a call early Sunday morning about a domestic violence incident at a party in the city. When officers arrived, they learned a man had assaulted a woman and then taken her from the scene. Officers alerted nearby law enforcement agencies about the incident. More than an hour later, police received a call about an injured person at the intersection of Bardsley Avenue and Pratt Street. Officers found a woman who was seriously injured. First responders tried to save her life, but she died at the scene. Police said investigators were able to connect the woman to the earlier reported domestic violence incident. Neighbor Reba McCaine said she saw the investigation unfolding steps from her home.

Neighbor Reba McCaine said she saw the investigation unfolding steps from her home. "I woke up about 3:25am and cops were lined up from my street down to Pratt Street on both sides. There were lights in the orchard over there," McCaine said. A photo shared by an ABC30 Insider showed law enforcement blocking a portion of Pratt Street as investigators collected evidence. McCaine heartbroken by the senseless violence. "I felt so sorry that I wanted to cry that somebody had been hurt down there and it's still upsetting," she said. McCaine also expressed concern about the deadly incident. "It kind of scared me to think that it would happen here in Tulare that people are being killed," she said. "To hurt a woman, any man to hurt a woman and kill them, they shouldn't do that," McCaine said. Detectives tracked down Rodriguez after learning that California Highway Patrol officers in Kings County had arrested him for DUI and found blood on his body and clothes. Police brought Rodriguez back to Tulare, where he was booked on charges including homicide. McCaine said she was relieved an arrest had been made. "I'm glad they caught him. He deserves to be caught," she said. Authorities plan to send the case to the district attorney's office for review.
