me simply explaining myself was considered arguing or back talking 😞

I’m Gen X. I have 2 millennials who are my world and I always respected them and treated them with kindness. They’re both 33 and 35 now and married. I also have 2 Gen z kids. My silent generation mom was so strict. I would flinch all the time. She was hard core. In that time “children were to be seen and not heard” when I was 13 I swore that when I grew up I would not raise my children this way. I’m winning. My kids have a voice. We have conversations in this house. There’s no yelling or hitting. Just good ole communication

I was traumatized as a kid. I’m actually still healing from it in my 40’s. My son a 10 year old, lives a completely different life than I did.

Mine are all in therapy. I am, too. They are CHILDREN. I apologize a LOT and I explain A LOT. We have boundaries. We show respect, until it's undeserved. They are kind, accepting, respectful humans and I am SO proud of my kids.

it feels so wierd that kids today actually have a voice. even though for old people they still dont have a voice, but for us they indeed have. the voice we didnt had when we were kids

I was 30 when I said not to my parents and I got a mug in my face, an adult tantrum from my mom and kicked out of their house. I had to move across the ocean to get them accept my opinions

I'm almost 45. when my now 19yo was having a bad day and played football 9 years ago. I'd tell him suit up and we'd go in the yard. he was allowed to try and take me down as hard as he felt needed. hell I'd still do that 9 years later.

I do things the complete opposite of my parents, I’m a millennial and got a life lesson on ‘how not to parent!’

My children say no, my children have a voice, my children know they are their own person, they have their own thoughts/feelings/emotions and all of that is okay.. My children are free to be who they are and they aren't shamed into hiding who they are.. Their mental health is addressed, they aren't told they are attention seeking!!
