@askmr.smith411: Calling out sick? Here’s how to keep it short, polite, and professional. On a mission to teach everyone the things schools don’t (how to adulting 101) “For general educational purposes only. Not professional advice.”
This IS the professional approach but it also assumes you’re dealing with a professional boss/supervisor/manager. I believe most will turn around and ask “why?” “How sick are you?” “Are you really that sick?”

Thank you I’m a corporate manager and I hate when my employees give me an essay and pictures just tell me you’re calling out that’s it 😬

My go to “it’s Mike, 8 hours sick today”. I always call before someone is in the office to answer so they don’t pry for more info

Just a FYI, if you don’t feel comfortable calling in like this after all the work you do, you’re not in a professional environment.

I said this today and my manager tried to guilt trip me with a passive-aggressive dig, implying i’m inconveniently leaving him short-staffed on truck day. Anyone else?

except for the part where bosses are so immature and toxic that they'll fire you/write you up/cut your hours if you don't give them a sob story or kiss their ass to make them like you.

I love giving long excuses though. I usually make sure the subject and intro get the initial point across though. If they want to read the rest they can since it usually will likely include condition and my plan of action to feel better. It’s important to me that my coworkers don’t think I’m skipping work. I don’t want to be sick and anxious.
