HORSE OWNERS: WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR PONY DID THIS?! 👀🐴😂 Well…we're back at HomeFarm at Undermountain Road in Lenox Ma, and apparently today's hoof trimming appointment came with a little EXTRA entertainment! Meet our little friend, who decided that having all four feet trimmed should involve a few jumps, some pony opinions, and one rather dramatic trip to the ground. 😂 And before anybody gets too excited in the comments… No, I didn't trip him. I didn't pull his leg up too high. And I certainly didn't put him on the ground. This little guy decided to throw himself down all on his own. Now, does that mean I ignore what happened? Absolutely not. When you're working underneath horses and ponies, you have to pay attention to their body language, balance, comfort, and how they're responding to having their feet handled. Sometimes you need to adjust your position. Sometimes you need to give them a moment. And sometimes you need to recognize when it's safer to let go of a foot rather than try to hold on. Good farrier work isn't just about knowing how to trim a hoof. It's about knowing how to work safely with the animal attached to it. Once we get through our little pony performance, I'm back to what I came here to do: trimming and rebalancing all four feet. As always, I'm talking you through what I'm seeing as I go, including hoof balance, toe length, heel position, hoof wall flare, hoof angles, hoof growth and wear patterns, and the adjustments I'm making with my hoof knife, nippers and rasp. Whether it's a big draft horse or a little pony, the goal is the same: evaluate the individual animal and work toward a properly balanced, functional hoof.
