Some men want the statusof a wife and kids but they don't want to be a husband and a father.

Yeah my dad did it to me. A year before his death sitting in my living room he asked me if he was a good father. I have three older sisters. I told him the truth, that he wasn’t there, my stepdad raised me. you’ll get a different answer with each child.

i never understood the “they won’t remember” bc does it even matter? they’re living in that moment RIGHT NOW, why are we as the parents not wanting to live in that moment with them?

Men always seem to think their hours after work is just for them to switch off. When you commit to having a family there is no switching off

My dad would tell his dispatcher anytime I had a choir performance or dance. I had two daddy daughter dances. Dad missed one so I went with my grandpa. But the one he went to we went to Bob Evan’s after and it was the only time I ever went to a restaurant with him. Very memorable. He only missed one choir concert and it was the one I had my first and only solo in. Well he wasn’t there but he didn’t miss it. My mom called and had him on speaker while he muted his end so he could hear me sing the sound tracks of all 3 high school musical movies and sing the opening to the song Everyday. Mom handed me her phone and he’d been on the call for over three hours listening and then waiting to talk to me. Showing up matters no matter how you have to do so.

My parents had always been busy. I had school activities they weren't able to attend. Like this girl, i stopped asking. Now im adult my mom told me "you should've gone and followed your passion", told her "i did try. I passed the entrance exam you didnt know i took, but i asked you both id like to go to this school, all you said was it's in a diff city, you did not let me. Still I took the test your sister encouraged me to take and paid for the reviewer and entrance exam fee". She said "i didnt know took it and passed, you never tell us anything". I said "after how many years if No's, I didnt bother, and there's many things you dont know". I'm the eldest. They always thought Im strong, and can handle things myself.

I'm an Older Millenial and my dad was absent for most of my life. To him earning money to provide for us should have been enough. He couldn't understand why I stopped talking to them or why I never initiated asking how they were. I told him they taught me to be like that and for once he didn't know what to say to me. He's 72 now and he's still expecting me to care.

This was my husband. Our oldest daughter asked her Aunt to go to debutante ball. He didn't even come to dinner with all of us when our youngest was going on her first overseas trip. Sadly he passed whilst she was away.

Reading stories like this remind me of how blessed I was. My father was my best friend and my knight in shining armor. I miss him every day since he passed.

My husband left the military because he was missing milestones , then he started to work for his family and he started to miss a lot more because self employment means you “cant turn a customer down”. His family lacked organization and scheduling. There was one time my husband said of our girls dance and cheer show offs “ i don’t need to be there well see the dance at competition “ i did get upset . Then one day i heard a very good and wise words “ when someone says they don’t have time its not that they don’t have time , its just not a priority to them. “. So the next time my husband said “ i cant i dont have time “ i said “ no, what you mean its not your priority “ he looked at me like i had sucker punched him. He tried to say he works because the girls are his priority, and i said “ do tou want them to say at your funeral ‘ dad worked so hard but we dint have many memories with him?’ Or “ dad always showed up and was our biggest fan?” Then i made him see how his parents were , what will he say about them ? They were workaholics, no memories made with him or grandkids. Our mids do not have a relationship with them, sadly

i never asked my dad to attend any events, my mom was always the one who took the responsibility to show up. but when i graduated high school, there was a father daughter dance, i asked him, he said yes then on the day he changed his mind. i didn’t question it but it hurt, i couldn’t stay inside while it happened, from that day i stopped asking him for anything and kept noticing ways he disappointed me that i never noticed before and ive never seen him the same since. there’s a lot more to my story, other traumas he’s put is through, he’s not a good person but this experience hurt especially bcos it was the first time the image i had of my dad being this great person who would always show up, love and protect me started to shatter.

Growing up, my parents never attended my school events. Whenever my teachers asked me to bring them, I would say, “I will,” even though deep inside, I knew they wouldn’t come. My mother would say to me, “No one will look after your younger siblings,” and I need to understand the situation. I still remember being in elementary school, watching my classmates with their parents at church (it was a school event Church) while I stood alone there, wishing I could experience the same thing. It hurt, but it made me stronger. I learned to be independent and stopped expecting too much from others😊🤗

The best quote is “When someone shows you who they are - believe them.” You showed your family exactly who you are and then you were hurt when they believed you.
