Average Colchester teacher salary for the 26-27' year is $97,900 for 187 days of contracted work, not including all their benefits which are some of the best in the State. That breaks down to $69.78/hr. Subs make $150/day or $18.75/hr with no benefits. The only viable candidates you're going to get at that rate are essentially college interns and retirees. No Vermonter could afford to work at those rates paying VT sized bills.

have any of these districts had the superintendent or central office staff step up and help with subbing? no? maybe they should start there. it will give them first hand knowledge on what the classrooms are actually like these days. (all schools need to do this not just the ones she mentioned)
