SAVE THIS! Korean Dish copied from whales? A must eat during Birthdays! - Miyeokguk is a dish commonly enjoyed by Koreans on birthdays, but there’s a fascinating story behind its origin. Did you know it’s associated with whales? Let me delve deeper. Centuries ago, possibly during the Gogoryo or Goryo Dynasty, records mention that people observed whales consuming seaweed after giving birth, likely as a recovery aid. Inspired by this, a unique Korean tradition emerged where new mothers would eat Miyeokguk with every meal for about three weeks post childbirth. Over time, this nourishing soup, initially meant to assist both mother and child in recovery, also began symbolizing the celebration of birth. Consequently, it evolved into a birthday staple. Though it’s a simple soup, its savory taste is reminiscent of a mother’s affection. Since it’s my birthday, we celebrated with Miyeokguk. If you want to cook this for a friend on their bday, here is the recipe below. Here’s the recipe: 1) cut meat into thin chunks (beef, chicken, or pork). Put the dry seaweed in water simultaneously. 2) in a pot put the meat and sesame oil and cook it 3) then add the seaweed and cook it more until meat is not red 4) add rice rinsed water (you can add dashi as well) and then add minced garlic and cook 5) then add 3 tbsp of soysauce and add salt to your liking 6) fill a bowl with rice(koreans often fill it over the brim) 7) enjoy :) - #seaweedfoodstory #miyeokgukbirthday #whatdokoreanseatonbirthdays #esyfilms #koreanfoodhistory #learnontiktok #sgfoodie #EasyRecipe #whattoeat #WhereToEat #esy_life
