I heard that Basiita did not exchange the Royal drum for millet but rather when the Bacweezi started getting weak and disappearing ( Kugoromoka) they (Bacweezi) entrusted the(Basiita ) to keep the Royal drum and hand it over to the strong person who would appear with signs of leadership. And I'm told that those Basiita were trusted soldiers of the Bacweezi. So they kept that Royal drum which was later given to Babiito and did the same for Obugabe of Ankole Kingdom.
please talk about this and kindly tag me . thank you 🙏

farmer :
I want to debunk the story of Basiita selling the drum in exchange for millet. This story is said to have taken place in Nkore Kingdom. It is told that when Wamara absconded the throne of Nkore Kingdom and left the drum (Bagyendanwa) to Karara (Omusiita) who was his Prime Minister. Ruhinda the so called son of Wamara was born and grew up in Karagwe with him mother Njunaki. The story is told about the return of Ruhinda to Nkore to take over the Kingdom. Karara had kept the drum which he would give to Ruhinda. When Ruhinda returned to Nkore he cam with his subjects who caaried millet as Karagwe had a bounty harvest of millet. Nkore had been hit by a bad drought and lacked food. When Ruhinda arrived at Karara's court formely Wamara's court there was great rejoicing to receive Ruhinda with his millet. They slaughtered cows and ate millet. This event of the return of Ruhinda was twisted to discredit Karara in case he considered taking over the drum. Karara had been the reigning authority after Wamara absconded the throne of Nkore, he was the musuuga of sorts. In power politics there is a lot of twisted logic to discredit rullers or political opponents. In recent times to see false stories of social media about the events in Toro Kindom after the passing of King Oyo.
This Ruhinda, Karara story and the exchange of the drum for millet is also told in Toro Kingdom in the same fashion with different actors making the same impact to disgrace the Basiita against the Babiito.
My question? How come this same even happened in two different Kindoms at different times? This is because it is an untrue story and it never happened at all.
In Nkore later Ankole Kingdom, it is quietely rumoured that actually, Wamara did not leave a child behind and the real father of Ruhinda was Karara a musiita whom Wamara gave the role of Omusuuga to give the drum and throne of Nkore to Ruhiinda. Karara had already grown old and he kept his master's secret and passed on the throne to his own son. This story has been told ever since to cover up what really happened. So Toro Kingdom borrowed the same strategy to undermine and discredit Basiita since they were the former rulers.
