I can only speak for the school I work with, but the goal of all these things really is to enrich your child's life. Granted, October is CRAZY...our craziest time of the year. Our fundraisers, of course, are optional. We don't pressure anyone to participate. We have done a fun run in the past and it's okay if you can't be there! Pick and choose what you can do. We are having a Toy Story 5 movie night this week. We are using some of the funds from our Fall Festival to provide the movie and one free popcorn/drink per person. The goal is to get the community involved, not to make money. Now, our Fall Festival was a fundraiser, after school. The parents who could make it came and those who couldn't didn't. It was $10 to enter and food items were $1 each. Admission included popcorn, 20 games to play (with candy and prizes), a maze, 3 bouncy houses, etc. Our school was BROKE prior to the fundraiser. We need every penny we can make. For field trips, it's rare for a parent to attend in our area. We keep our field trips at $10 or less and if the family cannot afford it the school (and sometimes the teacher) covers it. Our goal truly is to enrich the lives of the students. Spirit Week is wearing us out too 🤪 As a teacher, I spent money this month to dress up for cowgirl day, Character Walk (I was Bruno), Flag Day and Frida Kahlo Day. Ya girl is about broke. We do encourage everyone to get creative with Spirit Week and not spend a bunch of money (easier said than done). We havent forgotten that parents work, we work too (and most of us are parents too). When we are are school for the events, we aren't with our own children (mine are teens, so I get them out there volunteering). I do understand your frustration, just wanted to share from a teacher's perspective. I don't think any of us truly has time for any of it 🤪
