I’ve always been more conservative but I used to lean more to the left. I remember the day that started to change. It wasn’t long after Trump won the 2024 election when that storm passed through Texas and that girls camp was washed away. I remember the feeling of my blood getting hot as I saw people celebrating the deaths of innocent people because “Texas voted Red so fuck em.” That was when a shift started in me. Then just a few months after that. I remember I had just gotten home from work and out of the shower when my brother message and video in our group chat that they had just shot Charlie. I remember seeing the blood. Then I remember seeing “friends” I went to high school with laughing and joking that an innocent man was murdered. I remember thinking if they celebrated him then they would do the same to me. That was the final nail in the coffin that day. I was pushed further right that day then I had ever been. A lot of people were. Charlie’s death sparked a change in a lot of people both politically and religiously. I’ll never vote left again but I’ll never wish on them what they celebrated on Charlie. Jesus wants us to love those who hate us. It’s been one of the hardest commandments Jesus gave that I’ve tried to obey.
