There's a fair amount of merit if the Dems start throwing out a bunch of bills on some common sense reforms, or popular things, and letting Trump flounder since almost certainly his ego will get in his way. It would be really nice to have 53 seats so we have some wiggle room on our side. It might be eye opening to to more people currently unhappy with their governance.
