Africans were only called to participate as "employees" to fortify both camps, then "paid" by offering the a piece of land. They did not have a say. Same thing happened in the Isandlwana Battle. British recruited the Batlokwa people who resided in the area. Then after the battle, they were officially given a piece of land as reward for participating in the battle, but did not have a say in decision making. Same thing is still happening today. Example: March and March is recruited by a "group: that is influencing politics of South Africa. They actually don't have a say in terms of the direction of politics. We are just a large number that is used to fight battles/wars, but do not have a say.
