@.riosrx: #China has begun operating what #Shanghai describes as the world’s first undersea data center directly powered by offshore wind, placing computing infrastructure beneath the sea instead of using valuable land. The facility uses seawater as its natural cooling environment, avoiding the freshwater normally required by many conventional cooling systems. Shanghai says the project is designed to combine renewable electricity with more efficient cooling while supporting the rapidly growing demand for computing and #AI infrastructure. The underwater modules are sealed and operate offshore, where the surrounding seawater helps carry away heat. The project is still a relatively new demonstration rather than a replacement for conventional data centers, but it shows how offshore wind, underwater infrastructure and natural cooling can be combined to reduce the land, energy and water demands of large computing facilities.
